NmJazzart07_387_173_90Jazzart is the oldest contemporary dance company in the Cape and showcases a wide variety of dance, including afro-fusion and Indian dance styles.

Founded by Sonje Mayo in 1973 as a dance studio specialising in modern jazz dance, Jazzart has always welcomed dancers from across the racial spectrum. During the Apartheid regime Jazzart boycotted festivals and arts council theatres until the early 90s. Jacki Job is the current artistic director who continues to train young dancers for the professional stage and careers in the arts.

Jazzart run a series of Outreach programmes that use the arts as an educational tool and to teach young people, mainly in historically disadvantaged communities, to express themselves creatively. The Outreach Programme provides dance, performance, training and creative interventions to communities each year.

Jazzart is a registered Non-Profit Organization, and relies on financial support to succeed. If you would like to support their mission, you can do so here.
