Hamlet – Prince of Denmark

HamletThe internationally acclaimed ‘Hamlet’ comes to Cape Town before heading off on tour of the USA.

Inspired by one of the earliest recorded performances, taking place during Shakespeare’s lifetime in 1608. The crew of the East India Company merchant ship, the Red Dragon, performed the play aboard the vessel. This production re-imagines the play within the context of the historic performance aboard the Red Dragon. Starring Marcel Meyer as Hamlet, Michael Richard as King Claudius, Dean Balie doubling as Polonius and Horatio, Jeremy Richard as Laertes, and Matthew Baldwin as Ophelia and Callum Tilbury in the role of Queen Gertrude. Adapted by Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer

  1. I would love to relive my high school days of learning Hamlet, I’ve never been to a live production of a Shakespeare play and it would be so much fun 🙂

  2. This would make my mom’s heart so happy… one of her most favourite Shakespeare tales, on her birthday!

  3. This would be a fantastic way to relate to this year’s Matric setwork play for my daughter in Grade 12- the tricky part will be choosing the friend to accompany her!
