Construction of a new mini ‘city’ just outside Cape Town may start as soon as next year. Named ‘Wescape’, the city – which will be located on the N7 highway on the West Coast – has been designed as a self-sustaining community of 200 000 homes, 400 schools, 90 community facilities and a university.
The project addresses Cape Town’s rapidly growing population and its increased demand for housing, service and infrastructure. Since there is little opportunity to further develop the CBD, the West Coast was identified as ripe for expansion.
Wescape will be located 25km from Cape Town’s city centre and development will start sometime between 2017 and 2019.
