History: Pieter Toerien  is a renowned South African producer and theatre manager, responsible for bringing many large scale musicals to South African stages. Toerien has a close relationship with Theatre on The Bay, which is fuelled by his love for theatre.

Capacity: The theatre seats roughly 260 people.

Facilities:   The Theatre on the Bay boasts a well stocked bar which offers  a varied assortment of wines, warm beverages as well as snacks. The theatre is wheel chair friendly, and can accommodate one wheel chair per show. There is no additional cost for using the wheel chair facilities.

Parking:  Parking is limited to surrounded parking lots and street parking. The surrounding area is safe, and there are parking guards present throughout the evening.

    Andrea Foulkes, the well-known chef and owner of DISH Food & Social, together with her husband Oscar Foulkes, has taken over the restaurant on the first floor of Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay. She has re-styled the interior and renamed it Side Dish Theatre Bistro.

    It is tempting to view pre-theatre dinner as a side-show, as something diminished in value when compared with the thespian genius that will later transport the audience to another place. The Side Dish team have taken this opportunity to add to each patron’s evening of entertainment, so they would rather view their Side Dish experience as the overture of the night.

    Says Oscar Foulkes, “The archetypal Caveman ate for sustenance only, but food now also embodies entertainment, recreation, art, and even some science. So, it’s kind of cool to be cooking alongside Pieter Toerien’s various theatrical productions. From time to time, the menu at Side Dish will change and coincide with various productions-one could for instance find Prime Rib on offer during a season of Defending the Caveman!”

    The à la carte menu offers the finest fare, with a comprehensive wine list to match. The restaurant operates Tuesdays to Saturdays (and on Mondays and Sundays if there are shows) from 6pm to 11pm. The menu and wine list can be accessed via http://www.dishfood.co.za/sidedish/camps-bay.
