Hillcrest Quarry hosts the annual Windhoek Oktoberfest, the event with lots of beer on tap, live music and traditional German fare. 2017 introduces a slightly different structure, with special activities being introduced. The Festbier – specially brewed for the event by Baumeister Christian Müller – keg is tapped on Friday, where the first beer is handed to the mayor of the city who then declares Oktoberfest officially open.
The Kirchdorfer band, as well as two other bands, provide live entertainment, while Schuhplattler Dancers perform a traditional style of folk dance. Traditional German food is on sale and child-friendly entertainment and traditional games, such as Stamm-sägen (Log-sawing), Biestemmen (Beer-lifting), Hau den Lukas (High Striker) with Nageln, Beer Pong and Catty Shooting are available as well.
