The 4th Annual Art Franschhoek is a weekend of fine food, fine wine and fine artworks and exhibitions.
Over the years Franschhoek has established itself as one of the country’s premier art destinations with its numerous art galleries and resident artists. Art enthusiasts can walk along the village’s main road, browsing through the many galleries, or view the artworks on display at some of the wine farms, some of which also offer tours – both of the art and of the gardens.
A highlight of this year’s Art Franschhoek, and a first for the valley, is an exhibition entitled ‘Masterpieces from Franschhoek Private Collections’. Hosted by Ebony/Curated’s Bordeaux House Gallery, this is a unique once-off display of exquisite artworks on loan from private owners exclusively for this weekend. These include rarely seen works by William Kentridge, Alexis Preller, Dumile Feni, Robert Hodgins, Maud Sumner, and others.
To celebrate the start of this festival of art appreciation some of the participating galleries are hosting special events during the weekend. A detailed programme is available on the festival website.
Additionally, the Art Festival is happening in tandem to the Franschhoek Open Garden Festival and the Classic Music Festival, providing for visitors a variety of activities over the course of the weekend.
