Wade Bales – South Africa’s top “taste matchmaker”, revered both by new and experienced wine and spirits drinkers alike – is celebrating its 25th anniversary in style, with an elegant evening shindig on Friday 12 May.
The ‘Whisky & Gin Affair’ is described as a “uniquely tailored lifestyle experience”, offering over 75 limited edition and rare malts from around the world. New and innovative blends (think Dalwhinnie 15, Bushmills Black Bush, Aberlour 18, Redbreast 21, Singleton of Dufftown 12 and The Pogues Irish Whiskey) will rub shoulders with older and more traditional whiskies such as The Macallan 15 Fine Oak, Highland Park Dark Origins, Bruichladdich Black Art 4.1, Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Glenmorangie 18 Year Old, and Glen Grant as well as Nikka (Japan’s finest).
And don’t forget the gin! A versatile spirit with tons of variation between brands, gin is now recognised as the most exciting, fastest growing spirit category. Wade Bales offers an opportunity to meet international gin producers and discuss what makes their tipple quite so irresistible.
Highlights of the Whisky & Gin Affair include the opulent Murano Bar, where French champagne giants G.H. Mumm will be teaching the fine art of sabrage and offering tastings of their finest bubbly. And remember to listen out for the Half-Time Bell – where for a limited period of 15 minutes only, guests will be able to try rare whiskies and gins from “under the table”.
