The oldest ballet company in South Africa and one of the oldest in the world, Cape Town City Ballet was established in 1934. Executive Director Professor Elizabeth Triegaardt, with the help of Artistic Director Robin van Wyk, has intensified Cape Town City Ballet’s original philosophy of opportunity for talent into one that actively seeks out – and creates – training, performance and choreographic opportunities for young dancers from previously disadvantaged communities.
The CTCB mounts over 110 performances annually in formal and informal venues around the country and is renowned throughout South Africa and internationally both for the diversity of works in its repertoire and inimitable energy and style of its dancers – characteristics that stamp the company as uniquely South African.
