Profile: Mel Jones

Born and raised in Cape Town, Mel Jones burst into the limelight in 2003 with her presence on the local radio station 94.5 KFM. Mel is a product of the Cape Comedy Collective’s Comedy Lab workshops and is loved by audiences for her unique confidence and sexy style. Her shows, performed with fellow comedian Tracy Klass, Doing It for the Money and Still Doing It, were two of her first acts of many.

Her latest conquests include Blacks Only (2010-2011), Mind the Gap (2011) and Comedy Chicks Rock (2011). She has also appeared on SABC 3’s Comedy Showcase, The Phat Joe Show and has performed in a variety of venues such as Don Pedro Restaurant, Cape Comedy Club, Spier Amphitheatre and the Roxy Revue Bar at Grand West. The comedian has shared the stage with a wide array of popular local talent including Stuart Taylor, David Tau, Anne Hirsch and Mel Shevlane.

With a philosophy of “You have got to laugh at it” and a mission to bring laughter, smiles and warmth to everyone she meets it, she remains a popular favourite in Cape Town and, increasingly, South Africa.
