Review: Bijou at the Kalk Bay Theatre

bijou kalk bay theaterFrom the same sizzling pot that cooked up Bon Soir, Au Revoir and Caliente comes the new, French cabaret style holy holiday in Kalk Bay entertainment: Bijou. The Followspot crew is back on stage showing off their acrobatic booties and hilarious on-stage shenanigans in the format that they have not only become famous for, but that keeps filling the theatre with young and old. This year, the sexiness is so blatant, it’s more crescendo than innuendo. The sauciness so in your face, you can taste the bechamel. It’s bustiers and naughtiness jiggling alongside deep intimate dance duos and steamy mirror scenes. It’s hot.

The French word bijou means jewel, and the close-knit team of dancers shine bright like diamonds. Matriarch Vanessa Harris acts as the cheeky theatre fairy and MC for the evening, fully taking up her space on stage to introduce brothers Ash and Brad Searle. Alongside them, Liam Gillespie brings some more muscle (and a pair of super cute ankle boots), complemented by the flexy beauties Michelle la Trobe and Emily Isted.

One other diamond who shimmers spectacularly in the darkest and rainiest of nights is Hannah Hishin who brings her otherworldly voice to the mix. Time seems to suspend itself when she sings. Expect to be mesmerized.
With the silly season slowly starting to creep up on us, we can start to let go a little and spend more time in fun, frolic and with friends and family. Grab a loved one or a Tinder date and allow the enchanting jewels at Kalk Bay Theatre to bring some sparkle into your life. It’ll be worth it.

Bijou runs at Kalk Bay Theatre until 29 December 2018.
