Cut Above Travel and Tours hosts a guided Bo-Kaap Walking Tour to experience and explore one of Cape Town’s oldest and vibrant communities holding fast to their cultures and traditions.
Founder Latifa Cozyn uncovers the origin of the Muslim community and their journey to South Africa on this 2. hour tour. Bo-Kaap, formerly known as the Malay Quarter, is a bold and scenic area on the foot of Signal Hill that is home to a large Malay community that is widely recognised for the colourful architecture, great food, kassieda’s (Malay/Arab music), and the popular Malay Choirs.
Cozyn’s tour includes exploring Bo-Kaap by foot while pointing out architectural landmarks such as mosques, entry to Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum, and a visit to the Bo-Kaap Cultural Hub where guests can experience all the cultural and religious practices of the South African Muslim community. The experience finishes off with coffee or tea with Koesisters, the ultimate Malay teatime treat.
