The Camiellia Weekend at Vergelegen Estate offers a tour experience showcasing South Africa’s only International Camiellia Garden of Excellence.
Only 39 Camiellia gardens exist across the world, and this gives the opportunity for flower enthusiasts to be in contact with the flower genus usually found in the Japan, eastern Himalayas and Indonesia regions.
Visitors view the Camiellias in three areas in the garden such as next to the Camphors signature restaurant, near the Protected Natural Environment South African River, Lourens River, and the Barlow Camellias at the bottom of the Great Lawn.
The tour is led by estate horticulturist Richard Arms, taking attendees through the garden’s hidden gems. Each tour takes 25 people at a time and runs for an hour and a half, and refreshments are on offer for guests at the Stables family restaurant.
