POSTPONED: Cape Open Air | Shakey Graves

10 to 10 April 2020

Cape Open Air | Shakey GravesThe Inaugural Cape Open Air Festival comes to Cape Town over Easter Weekend, with their first edition featuring award-winning Americana musician Shakey Graves, performing alongside a line-up TBA.

Shakey Graves first gained attention with his one-man-band set up, which originated after he grew tired of having to borrow kick drums and high hats in order to perform. His solution consisted of a modified suitcase that functions as both a kick drum and a tambourine stand built by a close friend. Most of his 2011 self-released debut album Roll the Bones features him playing solo.

Graves’ unique style of performance led to him being asked to be the official ‘busker’ for the Edward Sharpe and Mumford & Sons Railroad Revival Tour in 2011, where he played music for patrons entering each venue. By 2014 Graves had his trio band set up and made their TV debut on Conan, along with performances on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Graves won the Best Emerging Artist award at the 2015 Americana Music Awards and has since released two albums and an EP, including 2018’s Can’t Wake Up album.

The Cape Open Air Festival is held at Muizenberg Park, allowing entry for all ages as well as the option for guests to bring in their own food.
