Back by popular demand, the Cape Town City Ballet performs Marc Goldberg’s ground-breaking adaptation of Alexander Pushkin’s Mozart and Salieri.
The story follows the apocryphal legend that court composer Antonio Salieri poisoned Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart out of jealousy at his extraordinary musical skill. Intertwined with the love story of Mozart and his wife Constanze, the ballet gives us scenes of Mozart within his own creative process, exploring the genius behind such a prolific body of work. The audience can expect exquisite period costumes, a rousing score, and cutting edge projections, all of which amount to a spectacular and breath-taking performance.
Maxime Quiroga joins the cast of Mozart and Salieri when it returns by popular demand. Quiroga joins a stellar Cape Town City Ballet cast lead by Martin Milner as Mozart, Daniel Szybkowski and Ivan Boonzaier as Salieri and ballerinas Laura Bosenberg and Mariette Opperman as Constanze.
“Mozart and Salieri must be lauded as Cape Town City Ballet’s most successful ventures into contemporary ballet yet seen. It is hugely exciting and refreshing to see the company perform something so stylistically and thematically different.” Read Shirley-Anne Bezuidenhout’s review of Mozart and Salieri.
