Profile: Marc Lottering

This big haired funny man is one of South Africa’s most loved comedians.  Son of a pastor he grew up in Mitchell’s Plain and burst on to the comedy scene in 1997 with his first self-scripted one-man show, After the Beep.

Through the years he has introduced various alter egos including Aunty Merle, Smiley, Galatia, Pastor Brandon, Colleen and Travis.  He is also an accomplished pianist and singer.

Marc’s other one-man shows include Grootbek (2005), Hallelujah (2006-2008), Naughty Forty (2009-2010) and Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates of the Caribbean (2010). When Marc isn’t entertaining local fans he travels abroad and has entertained home-sick South Africans in London, Australia, Toronto, New Zealand and Dubai.

The comedian has received various awards, gained extensive experience in both television and theatre and performed with fellow comedians Riaad Moosa and Nik Rabinowitz in Three Wise Men and its sequel, directed by David Kramer. He was also an integral part of the Bafunny Bafunny Comedy Tour, which saw him performing at the Royal Albert Hall alongside other top South African acts.
