Following the declaration of a National State of Disaster by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and in accordance with the stipulations that he outlined—as well as out of concern for staff, patrons, members and visitors— temporarily close Norval Foundation (including The Skotnes Restaurant) is temporarily closed to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Therefore, Norval Foundation will be closed from March 17th – April 12th, 2020.
Gallery operations will continue remotely during this time to the best of our ability, so do contact us through info@norvalfoundation.
Courage is as Contagious as Fear: Selected Works from the Hoosein Mahomed Collection forms part of Norval Foundation’s ongoing Collectors Focus.
Mahomed is an established collector, acquiring works by prominent mid-career and contemporary South African artists, as well as supporting younger artists. Initiated by the Foundation’s Founding CEO, Elana Brundyn, this series draws upon a broad range of local, national and international collections, owned by private individuals, corporate entities and public institutions. The impact of these collections lies in the practice of collecting and more broadly, in shaping culture.
The series of exhibitions and talks highlight divergent ways collections of visual art and design are assembled, managed, understood and engaged by audiences.
Schedule: 10am to 11am – Members’ Only preview, 11am – Exhibition open, 12.30pm – Hoosein Mahomed in conversation with Exhibition Curator, Daniel Rautenbach at the Atrium.
Venue: Norval Foundation, 4 Steenberg Road, Tokai, Cape Town
Cost: Museum Admission R180 | Free Admission every first Thursday of the month
