Cypress Cottage guest house is a majestic, unique, small family-run bed and breakfast accommodation in the centre of Swellendam. It has longed enjoyed a storied past in this historically rich Overberg town.
The main house is a place of comfort and character with 2 spacious en-suite rooms, as well as three en-suite rooms situated in the stables and a large family unit. All the rooms are decorated in cool unique styles such as their Brooklyn and Victorian rooms, with towering chandeliers and dark wood accents. And you can spend a lazy day with some drinks on the veranda – maybe something from their selection of quality wines from the Overberg and Boland regions.
The original space was built in 1796 in the Dutch tradition with lovely gables, with the latter unfortunately destroyed in the fire in 1840. At that stage, the owners renovated the house in the Victorian style. Remnants of the Cape Dutch era still remains through lovely Yellowwood ceilings and doors of the main house.
Decades later the Van Leeuwen family renovated it into Cypress Cottage, a desired destination for travellers and businessmen who appreciate the beauty of historical architecture with a touch of class.
