To: My Love, my Life, my Cape Town
My excursions with the 021 always fill my cup and make me fall further in love with Cape Town, but – as with any city – the hustle and bustle can takes its toll. I think I’m not alone in finding that the only remedy for this fatigue is a total escape.
What with work and other responsibilities it’s not often possible to embrace the dream scenario and simply disappear for a week. But an inner city staycation can be a fabulous way to escape quickly and easily while staying a stone’s throw from reality.
Located in the heart of the city, the Westin is a perfect location for a staycation: a luxurious utopia a short Uber ride away. How could I resist?
The most memorable aspect of my escape was without doubt the outstanding service. From the minute I entered the building, every member of the staff at The Westin made me feel welcomed, cared for and of genuine importance.
The bedroom was dripping with luxurious finishings, as well as (of course) an en-suite bathroom, coffee and tea facilities, and breathtaking views of the city and the V&A Waterfront. Entering to find a welcome bottle of bubbles and charcuterie board was a charming touch.
I made full use of the facilities for my overnight stay. Had a glass of wine (ok, maybe more than one) at the happy hour / canapé hour held on the 18th floor before heading to dinner at Thirty7 Showkitchen, situated within the hotel. The breadbasket alone lit a fire in my carb-loving heart, and the fillet steak quite literally melted in my mouth. One last glass of wine at the bar and I retired happily to my bed.
Breakfast was a generous affair offering everything from cakes and pastries, to salmon ribbons, to made-to-order breakfast favourites. I almost had to have a little lie down again afterwards.
Instead I headed to the Heavenly Spa – a divine spot to unwind with a swim in the pool, a relaxing session in the Jacuzzi, and some time in the steam room and sauna. Nothing better to help forget about work, stress, adulting and the rest.
With love from Cape Town
