Dating the City: V&A Waterfront

To: My Love, my Life, my Cape Town

When deciding on the location for my first ‘Dating the City’ experience, the V&A Waterfront called out to me. Stunning views, world class restaurants and a tourist sense of wonder: how could I not?

Since this series is an exploration of my love affair with the Mother City, our maiden flight had to be nothing short of romantic. A seaside dinner and a sunset cruise would surely do the trick.

First stop, the seaside supper in question.

Harbour House

I started the evening at a Waterfront staple, Harbour House, where I indulged in the recently launched tasting menu that flaunted delectable food, incredible wine (always an important factor) and service you’ll remember in the Uber ride home.

Chefs Michael Jonker and Odette Olivier curated a 5-course tasting menu that left me impressed, satisfied and in the spirit to fall further in love with the 021. Each course delighted in a different way and was paired beautifully with a top class South African wine. Being a wine mom at heart I knew we were definitely on the right track.

Long, lazy, wine-filled dinners are a Capetonian rite of passage, and Harbour House was the perfect location to indulge in the tradition. Staring at gorgeous seascapes, sipping (ok, glugging) fine wine and digging in to world class cuisine I was in bliss, pure bliss.

I marvelled at the sea from the comfort of land, it was now time to flip the script…

The Mirage

Upon boarding, I received a welcome glass of bubbly (hospitality at its finest!) and began my tour of the majestic yacht in all her glory.

The upper deck was an alluring option upon which to anchor myself, but feeling my inner Rose I made my way to the front of the boat as I would never have forgiven myself if I had not had my Titanic moment.

As the sips and selfies took place, the Mirage left the harbour and began cruising along the coastline. I found myself staring lustfully at views of the city I have never seen before. Cape Town, you flirt!

Circling out and back again, the golden hour painted the city and the mountain. Every stress, worry or thought took a time out. It’s moments like these that encapsulate the magic this city possesses.
