Cape Town Opera and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra present a one-night-only Duet Gala Concert at the Artscape, headlined by South African tenor Levy Sekgapane, first prize winner of Placido Domingo’s prestigious Operalia 2017 competition.
Since winning the Belvedere Singing Competition in 2015, Sekgapane has rapidly become one of the world’s most sought-after young Rossini tenors, partaking in bravura roles in major opera houses, including Munich, Copenhagen and Rome. He is supported by two other Belvedere winning South African singers, soprano Noluvuyiso Mpofu and baritone Mandla Mndebele, as well as a roster of local singers and the Cape Town Opera Chorus.
Drawing inspiration from two of Sekgapane’s most admired roles, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville and Prince Ramiro in La Cenerentola, the Gala features a programme of arias, duets and ensembles from operas by Mozart, Rossini, Massenet and Richard Strauss. Cape Town Opera’s Associate Music Director, Tim Murray conducts the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
Venue: Artscape Opera House, Artscape Theatre Centre, D.F. Malan St, Foreshore, Cape Town
Cost: R200 – R400
