Norval Foundation’s Concert Programme presents Emanuele Cisi Quartet
Born in Turin, Italy in 1964, Emanuele Cisi is one of the most representative voices of the European jazz scene. His style features a refined, energetic sound, combined with tradition and a strong sense of melody and swing.
Emanuele Cisi’s first visit to Cape Town and South Africa is supported by the Italian Institute for Culture in Pretoria (IIC) and the South African Association for Jazz Education (SAJE).
He is joined by Dave Ledbetter on piano and guitar, Hein van de Geyn on bass and Jonno Sweetman on drums. He has played with renowned musicians in Europe, the USA, South America, Japan and Russia.
In 2015 and 2016 he won the Jazzit Readers Poll as the best Italian Tenor Saxophonist.
He has also recorded and toured as a jazz soloist with a baroque ensemble called La Venexiana, considered to be the world’s preeminent interpreter of Monteverdi’s music.
In May 2018 he recorded “No Eyes – Looking at Lester Young” produced by Warner Music – a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest geniuses in the history of Jazz and “inventors” of the tenor sax.
