The Opulent Garden’s Sunday Pop-up Market may be a new addition to Cape Town’s markets, but they’re off to a cracking start. For one day only, you can join the city’s chic set for a luxury shopping experience set on the snap-worthy scenery of The Lawns in Camps Bay.

Founder Franziska Tobergte and some of the top boutique creatives are spotlighting this Sunday market filled with fashion, skincare, lifestyle, and art. Highlights include jewellery from Nina Bosch Porcelain Jewellery which won Meghan Markle’s personal stamp of approval, The Hive’s Jade Ashleigh presenting new pieces from her swimsuit label, hand knitted cashmere scarves and Italian handbags from Loulisa boutique in Cape Quarter, and natural skincare from Mesh and Bone – don’t leave without having a look at their Vitamin C Booster and Face Wash soap bar. If you’re looking to treat for your four-legged friend, You & Lou’s woven dog beds with their stylish patterns will make a cute gift.

Art@Africa Gallery is also promising an exclusive art experience with floating sculptures and interactive art installation. Round out your afternoon with cocktails from The Duchess and Happy Culture Kombucha, and The Mussel Monger & Oyster Bar will be on hand with fresh oysters. Sunday Pop-up Market is child-friendly, with a jumping castle to keep the little ones entertained.

After a successful spring run in Joburg, the epic KAMERS/Makers market is going out with a bang for their last Cape market of 2019! This summer market is once again setting up shop on the scenic grounds of Blaauwklippen Vineyards. Decor, design, and craft enthusiasts are in for a treat with over 190 artisans showcasing their goods at the 6-day market. Expect everything from sustainable fashion to unique jewellery, plant pots, and homeware. Foodies can look out for casual heritage-inspired bites at the new Hamm & Uys eatery, manned by celebrity chefs Johnny Hammam and Marius Uys. 

KAMERS/Makers, in partnership with Consol Glass, also managed to ditch plastic entirely for their on-site deli. And Consol Glass is also making its presence felt with its own pop-up shop giving visitors first dibs to new products and specials.

SECOND HAND 

Second Hand, an Observatory-based collective, is doing their bit for the sustainability effort with 3 monthly thrift markets specialising in vintage fashion, jewellery, and some accessory pieces. Shoppers can expect to find preloved goods from different eras, with the 80s and early 90s is the most popular. An insider trick is to arrive early if you want to fetch the best looks and bargains. And the unpretentious vibe, playground area, and snack stands are perfect incentives to bring the kids or your pets along to experience Obs hospitality at its finest.

The November Obs-Ficcial Thrift Fest has fast become the home of all things vintage and cool and kicks off on 3 November. For Tropical Thrift Fest at Trenchtown on the 24th of November, you can look ahead for groovy tunes, festival gear, pink flamingos from a smaller market. And their month-end Novalis Thrift Fest hosted in Wynberg provides some funky options to start your holiday shopping. 

The Second Hand team is also running regular recycling drop-off initiatives on their market days. A black bag filled with sorted paper, plastic, tin or glass will guarantee free entry to the market.

SATURDAY MARKET AT BLOEMENDAL ESTATE

This one is for all the foodies! Saturday Market at Bloemendal Wine Estate is a weekend market showcasing artisan food makers and the winery’s offering all set in a vibrant environment. Guests are welcome to pop into the vineyard’s tasting room to experience their award-winning wines guided by an expert team. Be sure to come hungry with an array of stalls on show, stock up on freshly baked goods, cured meats, preserves, then grab a bite to eat at a few of the eateries. The wood-fired pizza and sushi selection from Bon Amis Cafe & Deli’s kitchen comes highly recommended. 

Saturday Market at Bloemendal Wine Estate also courts beer lovers with their Stella Artois tent, and kids are kept busy with obstacle courses, slides, jumping castles and games. So if you’ve run out of unique ideas to spend your weekend, the market comes as an ideal option to mix good food and wine in an unfussed atmosphere. COUNTRY CRAFT MARKET 

The Country Craft Market has two dates in November and four in December to make sure you’re spoilt for festive gift choices. This family-friendly market promises to bring together underrated local talent and creatives that are alive and thriving in the Somerset West area and surrounds. There are around 140 vendors tucked along Southey’s Vines relaxed park-like setting, all boasting a huge collection of handcrafted goodies to explore including a large number of arts and crafts. Get a headstart on your Christmas retail therapy with an eclectic mix of items to liven up your home and garden or win over a loved one – from handcrafted toys, jewellery and decor pieces.

CHILLED MARKET AT THE RANGE

Chilled Market at The Range is a cut above your usual markets in Cape Town. This weekly food market is a popular attraction for families or anyone looking to escape busy grocery stores.
