Second Hand, an Observatory-based collective, is doing their bit for the sustainability effort with 3 monthly thrift markets specialising in vintage fashion, jewellery, and some accessory pieces. Shoppers can expect to find preloved goods from different eras, with the 80s and early 90s is the most popular. An insider trick is to arrive early if you want to fetch the best looks and bargains. And the unpretentious vibe, playground area, and snack stands are perfect incentives to bring the kids or your pets along to experience Obs hospitality at its finest.
The November Obs-Ficcial Thrift Fest has fast become the home of all things vintage and cool and kicks off on 3 November. For Tropical Thrift Fest at Trenchtown on the 24th of November, you can look ahead for groovy tunes, festival gear, pink flamingos from a smaller market. And their month-end Novalis Thrift Fest hosted in Wynberg provides some funky options to start your holiday shopping.
The Second Hand team is also running regular recycling drop-off initiatives on their market days. A black bag filled with sorted paper, plastic, tin or glass will guarantee free entry to the market.
