Robin van Wyk’s ballet, Stairway to Paradise, is the main work on the Spring Rhapsody programme, which also features a repeat of Ashley Killar’s Glazunov Variations. Other items include the famous Spring Waters pas de deux, Johan Strauss’s Blue Danube and the Diane & Acteon pas de deux – a challenge to any dancer.
Spring Rhapsody is a chance to see the dancers of the Cape Town City Ballet demonstrate their unparalleled ability to entertain in the idiom of classical dance in all its forms.

Liane Lurie’s revival of the popular full length ballet, Don Quixote, captures the Spanish flavour, wit and thrills of the original Cervantes masterpiece. With music by Ludwig Minkus and choreography after Petipa, Gorsky and Nureyev, Lurie has not only incorporated all the traditionally-expected virtuoso pas de deux and solos, but has added some unexpected surprises. A light-hearted, sparkling ballet in three acts, this knight’s tale is a story of dreams, love and humour told through an enthralling combination of bravado and pure classicism.
The stars of this production include Laura Bosenberg, Mariette Opperman and Thomas Thorne, who recently took Cape Town City Ballet’s Swan Lake to new heights.
The ballet is accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Brandon Phillips, at all but one of the performances. Tickets for the performance on Friday 27 October at 7.30pm, danced to pre-recorded music, are a mere R100 throughout.
