Focus: Enchanted Cirque

Enchanted Dinner CirqueFans of the much-missed Madame Zingara’s Theatre of Dreams are going to love this. A brand new international cirque production is set to open in the Mother City next month, promising a theatre experience full to the brim with circus entertainment.

A 450-seater Enchanted Spiegeltent, shipped directly from Belgium, is currently being assembled just outside Cape Town Stadium in Green Point. Six shows will take place each week, including matinees on Saturdays and Sundays, until 15 October, after which the show will move on to Joburg and Durban.

What can we look forward to seeing during the show?

“From the moment you walk into the Enchanted Spiegeltent,” promises the website, “You will be transported to a world of magic and mystery…”

Showcasting is headed up by Sebastian Cassie and Michael Carrigan, who have been involved in some of Australasia’s most successful circus shows, musical theatre and stage productions.  “Having the opportunity to bring this enchanting and unique production to my home country is a dream fulfilled,” says Sebastian, who grew up in New Zealand but is originally from Cape Town.

For Enchanted, the dynamic team have bought together artists from around the globe. Hosted by top South African comedienne Mel Jones and Piky Pokus from Argentina, the line-up includes crossbow contortionist and silk artist Orissa Kelly who has performed before the likes of Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince of Saudi.

Other acts include cloud swing and hoop artist Tom McKinnon, laser master and bubble magic man Thomas Favaro, a disco-inspired roller skating pair, a heart-stopping knife throwing duo, and others.  In the tradition of nouveau-cirque productions, the acts are pulled together by a narrative thread involving an enchatress and a prince, lost love and lots of magic.

Doors open an hour and a half before the show begins, so that guests can make the most of the wines, cocktails and beers available in the Enchanted Foyer, or the decadent MCC and Oyster Bar. The show itself is two hours long, during which the Enchanted Bar remains open, and waiters circle throughout the show to provide drinks and take orders from the simple ‘gastro-pub’ style menu.

Guests also have the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of the Enchanted stars, so don’t forget to bring along your camera for some once-in-a-lifetime cirque selfies. What’s more, each show ends with an Enchanted After-Party – where both hair and roof come down for a night of celebration with a live DJ, roaming artists and a magical atmosphere.

Enchanted promises to marry the thrill of cirque entertainment with the splendour of theatre, creating an unforgettable experience. We suggest moving fast to book your tickets.

  1. Has anyone been able to get a refund for the tickets they bought before the show was cancelled, but which obviously did not take place?
I’ve emailed them and received no reply. The phone number they provide does not work. What other recourse is there?
    Please advise!

      • Dear Cat

No, I did not get a refund for my 8 tickets. I even tried to go via the National Consumer commission, but they would not help me.

        Regards, Megan

        • Good day Megan and Cat

The same thing happened to our company, we booked and payed for the show for 08 December for our staff function

Just to discover 2 days before the show, that it is no longer available!!!

Up to date there were no traces of the above mentioned show organizers, Sebastian Cassie and Michael Carrigan

I made contact with Primedia Broadcasting, (KFM) because they were part of the sponsorship and advertisement for the event, but no luck as yet!

Please do inform me should you receive any valuable or contact information in this regards

          Thank you
