The Galileo Open Air Cinema features a variety of movie favourites under a ceiling of stars in some of Cape Town’s most popular venues.
A variety of ticket options are available for each screening, from the standard (entry only) to the VIP (including a blanket, a back rest, reserved premium seating, popcorn, a Coke and Frey chocolate). Also for couples, there is the snuggle option, which comes with one mattress on the front row, two blankets, two pillows and a Frey chocolate box.
Every Wednesday and Thursday, the movies are screened at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, famed for it’s natural beauty and wide range of unique plant life. On Fridays the venues rotate between four different spaces, namely the Meerendel Wine Estate, Central Park, Battery Park and Steenberg Farm. Saturday screenings take place at a variety of wine farms around the Cape Winelands and in the month of December there are Sunday screenings at the Kelvin Grove Club.
In the event of inclement weather (strong wind or rain), their screenings are either moved to an indoor backup venue, the ZipZap Dome, or they are cancelled. Guests receive an SMS and email notification as soon as a decision is made.
For more information on a detailed list of movies screened, those interested are advised to refer to the Galileo’s programme for this season’s show list.
“With drinks and dinner sorted, few things sound better than a movie under the stars; Galileo has the perfect summer activity here.” – Read Lauren Smith’s Review of the Galileo Open Air Cinema.
