Here at What’s on in Cape Town, we’ve been fiercely supportive of the #SupportLocal movement as a way to keep local activities and dining thriving. But a new proudly local web-based app has taken the movement to new heights.
HoodLinkd is a nifty way to connect customers with the best restaurants, barbers, tailors, and other special services right in their neighbourhood. In this article, we give you a teaser of just some of the unique City Bowl spaces and services you’ll find on the app ready to be explored and supported.
HoodLinkd is a brand-new web-based app that connects customers with businesses in a specified area. This easy-to-use app showcases a variety of businesses of all sizes and industries within your own hood. From restaurants, bakeries, to tailors, barbers, and even legal services.
The idea for the app grew out of a passion to support small and medium-sized businesses by offering them a convenient platform to connect with their audience.
True to their slogan ‘Your hood in one app’, you’ll get an electronic business directory (bye-bye Yellow Pages!), an event calendar with the latest happenings in your area, weekly deals to browse, and a vibrant marketplace for users to buy and sell preloved goods.
Users can register for free while businesses can choose between different packages ranging from free to premium. To download the app, simply go to www.hoodlinkd.com on your mobile device and follow the pop-up instructions.
In Cofimvaba – the Eastern Cape hometown of Molweni Coffee’s founder Monde Bulala – the morning starts with a friendly “Molo” and a warm smile from strangers passing by. The humility and kindness of that simple human connection are enough to lift one’s spirits to start the day off right.
And for his concept coffee shop in Cape Town, Monde captures the same humility and kind-heartedness for his selection of coffees. You’ll find a small selection of well-made coffees as well as fresh sarmies and baked sweet treats served with a smile.
This ethos is what makes the coffee shop such a wonderful addition to the city’s coffee culture. After all, coffee is a tool for bringing people together (and keeping us awake throughout the day).
