Irma Stern Museum Turns 50

1 February 2022 to 31 October 2022

Irma Stern MuseumIn 2022 the beloved Irma Stern Museum turns 50.

For its 50th anniversary, the museum is welcoming its diverse local audiences to enjoy all that the property already has to offer, but there is also a special programme of events throughout the year. The official celebrations launch to the general public and students in late February 2022.

Some of the highlights include a high-profile artist-in-residency programme. The first exhibition, by internationally recognised contemporary artist Athi Patra Ruga, runs from 19 March to 18 June 2022. This is followed by the stellar Georgina Gratrix in the studio as an artist in residence from July to September 2022. Her show opens in October. Celebrated composer and sound artist Neo Muyanga is the artist in residence from October onwards.

Parallel to this, the museum continues to run its ongoing education programme, which is partly funded by the National Art Council. The museum also hosts LGBTIQA+ Safe Space workshops weekly throughout most of the year.

Once the home of one of South Africa’s best known and internationally renowned painters, the Irma Stern Museum has been perfectly preserved just as the flamboyant artist left it. For full details of what the museum has planned, it is best to follow its Instagram account via @irma_stern_museum; join the mailing list by emailing or sending a WhatsApp to 060 827 0787; or visit the official website:
