La Barra Tapas Bar & Restaurant is the definition of what city slickers want for anytime dining: a chilled, familiar atmosphere, attentive service, and an unfussed menu that covers all the bases.
The dining concept is clearly set out to cater to the palates of both an international and local audience.
When new owner Sanjay Rampersad, took charge of the venue one of the first things he updated was the menu. Sanjay is on a mission to connect locals with South African heritage cuisine, even when they’re dining out.
And judging by the following so far, it seems he’s on the right track.
La Barra’s menu relies heavily on local produce while offering a variety of Tapas classics such as Patatas Bravas, Empanadillas, and filled tortillas. And for a taste of Mzansi, boerewors bites, braai broodjies, and a selection of sweet and savoury samosas feature to spice things up.
The Angus beef burger, Prego roll, and chicken skewer are suited to those seeking out something more substantial.
Their drinks offering is a mix of popular international labels. But local spirits are well represented via Six Dogs and Inverroche gin, Jack Black beer, and Bain’s whiskey.
And while the cocktail menu is short and to the point, you can rest assured that the freshest fruit and herbs are used for the barman to make his magic. The Strawberry Daiquiri especially, which puts us in mind of boozy, drinkable freshly-crushed berries, comes with our stamp of approval.
La Barra gets buzzy over weekends with a vibey, energetic atmosphere that captures what nightlife in Cape Town is about. And a live DJ is on the decks every First Thursday and other special events.
Keep your eye on their social media for meal and happy hour specials.
