Norval Foundation Tour

Norval Foundation tourMuseum tours of the Norval Foundation: the new centre for the research and exhibition of 20th and  21st century visual art from South Africa and beyond – are offered to the public, led by one of Norval Foundation’s curators.

Located in the Steenberg area of Cape Town, adjacent to Table Mountain National Park, the Norval Foundation offers art exhibitions with global appeal, in an environment that also fosters an appreciation for nature.

Its sculpture garden, outdoor amphitheatre, purpose-built exhibition spaces and research library are situated within a unique setting that offers visitors a multi-sensory experience. This is complemented by a sophisticated restaurant and bar, a bespoke shop and a children’s playground.

The Norval Foundation aims to create high-quality exhibitions and public programming to broaden the understanding of the visual arts. They are also the custodians of the Gerard Sekoto Foundation, Edoardo Villa Estate Collection, and the Alexis Preller Archive.

The Homestead Art Collection, housed at the foundation as a curatorial asset, is one of the leading collections of 20th-century South African art assembled by the Norval family over the past two decades. The collection includes work by artists such as Deborah Bell, Peter Clarke, Dumile Feni, Sydney Kumalo, Maggie Laubser, Ezrom Legae, Trevor Makhoba, John Muafangejo, George Pemba, Alexis Preller, Gerard Sekoto, Cecil Skotnes, Irma Stern, Edoardo Villa and Anton van Wouw. It also incorporates Bruce Campbell Smith’s Revisions Collection and a significant collection of publications on South African art.
