Set at the foot of Ou Kaapse Weg, with a view that encompasses mountain and vineyards and one of the most striking architectural additions to Cape Town in recent years, the sculpture garden at Norval Foundation is a great place for a picnic.
The Sculpture Garden at Norval Foundation features three-dimensional and installation-based artworks by artists from South Africa and Africa.
Two standards of picnic are available: the ‘classic’ – a simpler, though still substantial basket, and the ‘gourmet’ – for those who want to take their time and linger over every mouthful. Both of the picnics have a distinct South African flavour – think vetkoek, bobotie samosas, snoek pâté and soet patat hummus – and both offer vegetarian and gluten-free options. All ingredients are sourced from local, small-batch food suppliers. Baskets also include a range of desserts made by the Skotnes restaurant’s in-house pastry chef, Isca Stoltz.
The picnics can be picked up from the Kiosk outside the Skotnes restaurant, which also offers take-away coffee and a range of top notch Italian gelati.
Picnic baskets must be ordered a minimum of 2 days in advance, either by phone or online. Price includes admission to Norval Foundation’s museum and gallery spaces.
