A 3km section of Main Road is closed to cars and Capetonian pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders and wheelchair users are invited to reclaim the streets as a public space, for walking, playing, exploring and general socialising.
Open Streets aims to create shared spaces to help bridge social and spatial divides in Cape Town and encourage people to think differently about how we move around the city.
‘Many people took part and thoroughly enjoyed the creative, happy and – let’s be honest – decidedly bohemian atmosphere. It was a huge success and an obvious joy for both young and old participants. More please.’ Read Isabelle Horn’s review of a previous Open Streets.
