The Pier Head Chess Board is a giant outdoor chess board created as part of the V&A’s Waterfront’s development strategy to energize the space between buildings.
There are several smaller chess games built into the outdoor tables surrounding the Chess Board, so passing onlookers can participate in a more intimate game. But chess is not the only thing on offer – there is also a boules court and the Kids Ahoy Playground in the square, with regular face painters, stilt walkers, marimba bands and balloon sculptors keeping the air festive.
This is one of the many Cape Town attractions to enjoy at the V&A Waterfront.
