Nederburg presents The Red Table, a country-style restaurant situated in a heritage protected manor house.
It was created in collaboration with well-known Cape Town foodie, Andrea Foulkes, and offers locally-sourced, fresh food in a comfortable and historic atmosphere.
During the summer months, visitors can enjoy the manor house terrace and sprawling gardens, set against the backdrop of vineyards and the towering Drakenstein Mountains.
With fireplaces ablaze during the winter months, the plush and comfortable interior of the manor house is a perfect setting for relaxed meals shared with family and friends.
Head chef Lisa Cilliers’ à la carte menu focuses on tasty, simple eating with flavours to match the award-winning range of Nederburg wines.
Signature favourites include starters such as green bean, avocado and bocconcini baby leaf salad topped with poached egg, toasted almonds and light lemon dressing; smoked smoor snoek and cauliflower rice, lightly curried with sambals, green chutney and sweet potato crisps; and slaphakskeentjie tart tatin with chevin cream.
The main course menu features dishes such as pork belly with braised red cabbage and green apple with sweet potato croquettes; fresh fish of the day and chips with tartar sauce; biltong-crusted beef fillet with potatoes Boulangère, flashed garden vegetables and chimichurri sauce; and slow-braised springbok phyllo parcel with maize tabbouleh, toasted corn and red wine jus.
Desserts are also available, including baked cheesecake with gooseberry compote; rich chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream; Gewürztraminer-infused crème brȗlée; and milk tart with rooibos ice cream; and artisanal flavoured lollies.
Children are catered for with a selection of meals.
The Red Table’s “Feast to the Table” is ideal for those visiting in groups of six or more. It offers a variety of dishes served family-style on platters on the table, including freshly baked bread and spreads; whole roasted garlic and rosemary chicken cut into serving size portions; roasted beetroot, toasted corn, sundried tomatoes, chickpea and baby spinach salad; roasted butternut, feta, olives, toasted pumpkin seeds with Bulgur wheat and rocket salad with balsamic dressing; and concertina roasted potatoes with crispy bacon and parmesan crumble.
The feast has an option to add roasted sirloin with herbed salsa and dessert of peach and blueberry upside down cake with vanilla ice cream.
Picnics are available during the summer months and can be enjoyed in under shady trees. The freshly-prepared selection includes artisanal bread and hummus, delicious cheeses, fig preserve, thyme & lemon chicken kebabs, Springbok samoosas, roasted Cajun spiced nuts, brie and mushroom tartlet with caramelised onions, fresh seasonal salad, and a sweet treat.
It comes packed in a picnic basket complete with cutlery, crockery, glassware, wooden platter, blanket and ice bucket. Kids’ picnics are also available.
A wide selection of Nederburg wines is offered by the glass, and the almost the entire range is available by the bottle.
While vegetarians and those with special dietary needs can be accommodated, the kitchen does prepare meat, seafood, peanuts and gluten products on the premises.
