Voted SA’s second favourite wine route in 2008 and the Great Wine Capitals of the World’s award for Most Innovative Wine Tourism Experience in 2009, this area features some of SA’s top wine brands and hosts four popular annual events: the Wacky Wine Weekend, which draws crowds of as much as 20 000 in June; the Robertson Wine on the River – a laid-back spring festival; the
Hands-on Harvest – an activity-packed experience to show the wine drinker how the grape makes it into the bottle; and Robertson Slow, where visitors simply slow down to revel in the goodness of the Valley.
The Robertson Wine Valley comprises of the four charming villages of Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson each of which has a unique character and an interesting history. Activities in the area include river rafting, game drives, bird watching, cheese and olive tasting, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, spa treatments and meditative retreats. There is also a flourishing artistic community.
