Die Berg is Geduldig (The Mountain is Patient) forms part of Rentia Retief’s first solo exhibition in Cape Town and draws on her continued investigation into the landscape and people’s place in it.
Her works on paper, created ‘en plein air’ in the mountains, with the elements contributing to the mark making, aims to entice the viewer to relive the experience of being alone in nature.
By creating these drawings, often on a very large scale, she endeavors to capture a lost emotion and to draw herself closer to a natural world that is quickly disappearing.
Rentia is the recipient of The George Paul Canitz Fine Art Prize and the University of Stellenbosch Public Art Award.
