Another year has flown by too fast, and parents across the Cape are desperately trying to to peel their kids off the couch and away from the TV. Look no further – we’ve compiled a list of places, activities and workshops that will keep your kids busy and breathing fresh air these holidays! So prepare your sunscreen and get ready for some fun. Note that advance booking is absolutely essential.
OFF THE MARK
With the holidays looming and a variety of running events on the roster, Off the Mark is once again hosting its annual Athletics Holiday Clinic this summer. The workshop is perfectly suited for young sprinters and middle-distance athletes alike (and even better for those who aren’t sure which of these categories they fall into.)
This final fitness clinic for 2018 is aimed at coaching kids’ track running and works with a triple-station structure, where small groups of athletes move between three stations to experience every aspect of the action and learning experience. The 2018 Athletic Holiday Clinic edition has increased its competitive aspects, having found in the past that athletes bring the best out of themselves when they are motivated by competing.
Off the Mark is a local pioneering initiative with years of experience in shaping and improving kids’ skill set on the track – it’s a great way to get your kids active this summer.

ATLANTIC SURF HOLIDAY CLUB
Atlantic Surf Co. is hosting a Holiday Club for kids between the ages of 5 to 15 years old, aimed at introducing beginners as well as advanced kids into the ocean with entertaining, interactive activities.
Atlantic Surf Co. teach kids the basics of surfing/body boarding with an emphasis on fun, because “kids learn more when they are having fun”. They also cater for kids who are already catching clean waves, by having a crew member accompany them to the back line. And surfing is not all they have to offer. There are also rock pool swims, beach and water games, short hikes, beach clean ups and lots more.
The Atlantic Surf Club is not a course, so kids and teens can participate for as many days as they choose.

Breakaway Rides offers kid-specific mountain bike workshops, equipping young ones and teens with the necessary techniques and practical application needed to improve their riding.
The workshops teach the core skills of mountain biking – including correct body posture, cornering with control, manoeuvering the bike on rough terrain, dealing with drops and tackling obstacles – and harness these skills by gradually (and safely!) introducing trickier trails. The final day fine-tunes the kids’ acquired abilities, so that they may get the most out of every inch of the trails and ride with great flow. Games and other activities are incorporated to keep the training fun and interactive – such as the 20-minute race included at the end of the last day. Ride locations per workshop are made up of a selection of Hoogekraal, Contermanskloof, Bloemendal, and/or Constantia Bike Park.
A catered-for snack break is included in this workshop, as well as a goody bag for all participants. The kids’ workshops are aimed at the age groups of 5 to 7 years old and 8 to 10 years old; the teens’ workshops are for ages 11 to 15 years old.
