Behind Spiritgirl are two fun-loving, active South African girls with a sense of adventure and an eco-awareness for the world. They are proud to call the vibrant city of Cape-Town home. Their passion for design, nurture for nature and love of an active lifestyle, brought them together to form Spiritgirl to create custom-designed yoga and surfwear.

They would aspire for their apparel to inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle, help them feel free to express themselves and to shine brightly to the world. Their work is inspired by their travels, respect for other spiritual beliefs and love of nature.

The Spiritgirl collection is made from recycled plastic bottles (PET). Once the bottles have gone through the recycled process, they get woven with 20% spandex to create the beautiful sustainable Spiritgirl activewear. Through this process, less pollution is created and more energy is saved. This also cuts down the demands for dyes and fixing agents and decreases emissions of carbon dioxide.

Janine Davidson, Zimbabwean-born artist and jewellery designer, founded Scarab 28 years ago in a simple jewellery studio in the arty suburb of Observatory, Cape Town. Since then, Scarab Jewellery has steadily grown to boast a professional on-site workshop and design studio in Cape Town.

Inspired by Africa’s greatest recycler, the humble dung beetle, the Scarab Jewellery Design Studio brand embodies the growing trend of “up-cycling” the old into the new. This trend of recycling jewellery by breathing new life into tired and overworked fine jewellery design is one of their specialties. Their talented team of designers and artist goldsmiths melt down your precious metal and then rework the stones into new contemporary art pieces – the jewels of the future.

Besides the recycling of old jewellery, Scarab Jewellery Design Studio also offers clients the opportunity to be a part of the special process of designing their own bespoke jewellery. For more information on their bespoke jewellery design and the Scarab Jewellery Design Studio online shop, visit their website.

Heather Moore’s simple, clean pattern designs and unusual colour palette are inspired by everyday things, her love of midcentury style and a dose of African chic. In 2007 she started screen printing her patterns onto fabric, just for fun. Next thing, her hobby had become a business called Skinny laMinx, and the things she’d designed could be found in stores and homes around the globe.

Skinny laMinx opened their chic little store on Cape Town’s Bree Street in 2011, and have enjoyed watching the neighbourhood grow into the best shopping district in the city. Above the shop is their design and production studio, where they come up with all their patterns and designs, and stitch them up into beautiful things.

The Skinny laMinx products include various playful and colourful accessories, including hats, scarves, bags and face masks. Skinny laMinx also brings colour to your home, through their range of pillows, aprons, tableware and tea towels. To have a browse, visit their website or Bree Street store.
