Good Hope Adventures opens up a new ‘Top Secret HQ Tunnels and Bunkers’ tour for the winter season, which sees participants exploring Fort Wynyard (1795), an abandoned underground network and decommissioned ammunition storage bunker.
Guests see the workings of ammunition lifts, as well as the only disappearing cannon in South Africa, and learn about the battle that changed SA history forever, as well as World War II Special Signals Services, 17 secret radar stations, flying Catalina boats that transported German spies, Venturas, and Wolfpack German U-boats that sunk over 100 000 tons of shipping in the Cape waters.
The Officers’ Bar is available as an add-on to the tour – making the whole experience ideal for bachelor parties, treasure hunts, Halloween events, or team-building events.
Visits must be pre-booked at least 2 weeks in advance (no ‘pay at the door’ service and no casual visitors are permitted). Minimum age for visitors is 7, and all minors 16 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Guests are asked to dress for comfort, with non-slip outdoor footgear, and to bring a torch along. Tours are restricted to 25 people per group.
