V&A Waterfront GPS Audio Tour


GPS walking tourThe V&A Waterfront is one of Africa’s most popular destinations and yet few people know the history of this port, once known as the Tavern of the Seas. It is South Africa’s oldest working harbour, and only a few decades ago was an uninviting, industrial port. On the tour listeners learn about the history of this famous harbour, from its humble beginnings to its construction into the beautiful destination it is today.

The tour is designed to open the listener’s eyes to traces of the past, daily operations and opportunities for the future. It is for tourists and locals alike.

To do this GPS guided tour, you need a smartphone or tablet, earphones and an internet connection to download the app. Free earphones are available from the V&A Waterfront Information Centre. Free WiFi is also available .

The tour takes 1 hour to complete.

How it works

1. First, download and install the VoiceMap app. Click here for Android. Click here for iStore.

2. Sign up using Facebook or email.

3. Select Cape Town.

4. Select and download the free tour Reinventing the Tavern of the Seas.

5. Once the tour has finished downloading, plug in your headphones and tap Start.
