Veld and Sea is an experience-based business that explores edible landscapes through seasonal and sustainable immersive wild food workshops and nature-inspired events.
With the aim of teaching sustainable, responsible, and legal foraging practices, Veld and Sea offers wild food foraging workshops and walks, wild flavour cooking classes, interactive pop-up dinners, adventure weekends, nature-inspired workshops, curated experiences for corporates, as well as travelling foraging workshops.
Outside teachers that are experts in their field lead specialized workshops such as fermentation, wildcrafting, botanical art and crafts, botanical cocktails, mushroom foraging, medicinal plants, and botanical embroidery.
Inspired by the natural world around her, Roushanna Gray – the founder of Veld and Sea – has been working with the exciting and diverse wild flavors found in the mountains, veld, and gardens for the last 14 years. The wide range of culinary offerings found in the intertidal rock pools along the South African coastline play a major role in her cooking and teaching. In 2019 she won the Spier Sustainability Award at the Food XX and Eatout Awards for her efforts to highlight South Africa’s local edible plant culture. She also won the Most Authentic African Experience award for recognition of excellence in the hospitality division by the Cape Town Experience Awards.
The Surf Shack, a simple and rustic refurbished caravan ideally situated for nature lovers and surfers, can also be rented out for short or long stays.
